Lead Weights

Mars Metal™ manufactures custom and production counterweights and test weights for material handling, elevator, aerospace and many other industries. We also make window, bridge and ballast weights. Our lead weights are available as environmentally friendly, fully encapsulated or straight cast. The low melting point of lead makes it an inexpensive material to cast. In general, lead is easy to cast in a various shapes using a gravity pour method or when volumes are low and pieces are small, by hand pour. Mars Metal™ has the capability of producing continuous pours well over 200,000 lbs.

Our limitations are only based on the handling of extremely heavy weights and lead pour heights. We produce counterweights from .5 lbs. to 250,000 lbs in both small and large quantities.

Weights may be modular, stackable, individual or any other combination that suits your application. We develop strategies with our customers in order to provide counterweights that address their needs. This includes tight weight tolerances, rigid adherence to specifications and a final finish that reflects close attention to detail.

Design and Performance

With lead being 44% denser than steel, designers have greater design freedom using cast lead. Listed below are just a few examples of design improvements, with "what if" lead solutions:

• Extend the unit's lifting capacity or reach specifications with a heavier counterweight within the same space.
• Reduce the size of the weight. For example, designing with lead, a 40" high steel counterweight may be shortened to 27.8", or made 44% narrower.
• Uses cast lead counterweights and re-engineer the heavier frames and other costly design compromises, needed to provide extra counterweight. Design with cast lead for maximum performance and cost benefit.
• Wheel bases may be shortened, providing improved turning radius and reduced rear end swing.

APPEARANCE: Our fit and finish is excellent. We provide smooth surfaces with ground and de-burred edges, primer-painted, ready for final installation.

MODULAR ASSEMBLY: Our counterweights are shipped ready to be placed and bolted on, as part of the final unit assembly. This saves production assembly costs while providing a potential owner the benefit of an easily removable counterweight.
