Marsmetal: Counterweights
Mars Metal specializes in just in time production runs for your custom counterweight application. Our designs feature clean lines and are narrower and/or shorter than a steel counterweight. If you have a problem with size or space let our qualified experts help you. Encapsulated in steel canisters, our environmentally safe lead counterweights are 40% heavier than steel. Lead is 40% denser than any other economical metal. In a counterweight application for example lead creates opportunities that expand equipment performance. Improving canister design and utilizing high density lead produces lower centers of gravity in lift equipment, benefits such as smaller turning radius, accurate weights, and denser canisters that require less space, provide design opportunities that exceed those available with concrete, steel plate, shot or punchings. Counterweights The major portion of our business is lowering the center of gravity in lift equipment and sailboats. For sailboats, we custom design and cast a counterweight called a keel to keep them upright under loading from the wind. For the heavy equipment industry, we design and fabricate counterweights that keep lifting equipment upright when loaded. These two businesses share remarkable similarities, though the in-service use of these products is very different. Test Weights Our standard test units consist of a two wheeled cart with a lead filled box (approximately 12" square) or an open top box with individual plates that can be easily removed. Each 500-lb cart is mounted to an independent axle with rubber wheels for easy maneuverability. Painted matte black with the capacity stamped onto box, all carts are designed to nest for space savings. In addition to providing standard weights, Mars Metal engineers, designs and custom builds test weights for any application, from aerospace structural design and elevator testing to bridge, crane and forklift counterweight boxes.
